Advanced nail care, in-growing toenail, fungal nails and nail surgery
Nail Surgery is a common and effective treatment for symptomatic nails that are not resolving with conservative care. Nail surgery may be required when a nail repeatedly gets infected, is continually painful and starts affecting your quality of life by inhibiting work, sporting or other activities.
We are all manufactured differently and some nails have different shapes or curvatures and together with external factors such footwear, repetitive trauma, nails can grow into the adjacent skin. It is often simply treated by removing the offending section followed by nail care education and small foot care modifications to prevent problems in the future.
Ingrown Toenails
Ingrown toenails can be painful especially if any pressure is applied either directly or via any contact from hosiery, footwear or even bedding. The anaesthetic injection before surgery may be uncomfortable, however this only lasts a few seconds and once the injection takes effect and the numbness sets in, there will be no feeling of pain during the procedure.
You will be provided with aftercare information following the procedure with a detailed explanation of what you had done and what to do next.

You will be showed how to change tour dressing and provided with a dressing pack with everything you need to change your dressing. By following the advice given in clinic and being strict with the redressing protocol, a quick recovery can be achieved.
Wound Healing
Wound healing can take several weeks but this will depend on the individual and tissue viability amongst other factors, your clinician would have identified any risk factors that may delay healing and would have introduced preventative measures. The pain will steadily lessen in the days following surgery, if required, this can be treated with over-the-counter pain medication and should have gone by the time the wound heals.
