With a focus on providing comprehensive and personalised care, Pioneer Private Care is committed to helping patients achieve optimal healing and recovery from various conditions.
At the heart of Pioneer Private Care is a team of experienced specialists who utilise the latest evidence-based practices and advanced technologies to treat and manage Lymphoedema and Lipoedema effectively.
We are the largest Wound and Lymphoedema team in the UK and our specialist staff are experts in treating these conditions. Our Board includes two Executive Nurses Directors (Nurse Consultants) and a Medical Director (Plastic Surgeon) who have many decades of experience in developing and delivering excellence in the field.

Executive Nurse Director
Professor David Gray and Professor Jenni MacDonald have a combined 45 years of developing and leading Lymphoedema and Tissue Viability (wound) Services across the UK. Both Jenni and David are Professors in the Wound Healing Practice Development Unit at Birmingham City University and continue to practice as Nurse Consultants.

Jenni MacDonald is one of the Executive Nurse Directors at Pioneer Wound Healing and Lymphoedema Centres. Jenni also holds the role of Professor of Wound Healing at Brimingham City University, supporting the delivery of Masters degrees in wound healing and tissue repair. Jenni continues to practice as a Nurse Consultant in Tissue Viability and over the last decade has led Tissue Viability and Harm Free Care services for acute, primary and community care across both England and Scotland. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Tissue Viability, a Master of Science degree in Skin Integrity and also graduated from her Darzi Fellowship in 2018 (Healthcare Leadership & Quality Improvement). Jenni also supports British Olympic and Paralympic athletes, sports clinicians and coaches via her role as Skin Integrity Nurse Consultant for the UK Sports Institute.

Professor Steve Jeffrey is a Consultant Plastic Surgeon, serving with the British Army for 40 years including 4 tours of Afghanistan during his service, Steve is an active researcher in the field of wounds and also member of the Wound Healing Practice Development Unit at Birmingham City University.

Professor Michael Clark is a zoologist by training and has worked in tissue viability and wound healing since 1980. From 2012 to 2024 he was a senior member of the Welsh Wound Innovation Centre. Prof Clark has previously served as the Chief Executive of the Lindsay Leg Club Foundation, President of the European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel and a Council member of the European Wound Management Association.

Sue D’Ancey spent 20 years as a Registered Nurse before moving into management, undertaking a Masters degree in management and has been a senior member of the team for the Pioneer Wound Healing Centres for over 20 years and also specialises in Information Governance.

Roger Widdowson is a Chartered Accountant by training and spent 33 years with KPMG, 20 years as a Partner, operating in the field of Healthcare & Life Sciences. While at KPMG, Roger sat on the Global Healthcare steering group and led teams in mergers and acquisitions in the UK and internationally in the healthcare & life sciences sector.

Siobhan McCoulough, Teresa Rocha, Carla Leca all have significant experience leading tissue viability services across all clinical settings across England. They hold Senior leadership roles at Pioneer and continue to practice as Nurse Consultants.

Dr Stuart Shand worked as a Registered Nurse for six years before becoming a Doctor which is where his study into wound management began. Working as a GP, Stuart manages the complex medical needs of a busy surgery and he also supports Medics and Ship Captains offshore via telehealth and volunteers for the Ambulance Service.

All of our clinical staff are dual-trained in both wound healing and lymphoedema, every person within the Pioneer network is committed to working together to improve wound healing and lymphoedema treatments. We are very fortunate to have leaders in the fields of Tissue Viability and Lymphoedema with over 20 Clinical Leaders and Nurse Consultants leading and overseeing all clinical activities on a daily basis.

The Clinical Administration Team are led by our General Manager and are vital to the effective flow of patients and in ensuring timely and safe care. Often as the first point of contact with the patient, either in communicating appointments or on welcoming patients to our centres, the Clinical Administrators recognise the impact of their work on the experience of patients and their families.
